Michigan State Finishes Second Day at UCF Challenge


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team is in 11th place among 18 teams after the second round of play at the UCF Challenge, being played at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
The 3-day, 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday.

Second Round Results

The Spartans entered the second round in fifth place after an 8-under par 280 on Sunday, but posted a 6-over par 294 on Monday. MSU has a two-day total of 2-under par 574.

Northwestern leads the field at 34-under par 542, three shots ahead of Wake Forest (31-under par 545). Mississippi State is in third place (28-under par 548), UCF is fourth (23-under par 553) and the College of Charleston rounds out the top-five teams (19-under par 557).

Sophomore Brooke Biermann is tied for 32nd place at 1-under par 143, posting a 3-over par 75 on Monday.

Classmate Katie Lu had the team’s second-best round of the day with a 1-over par 73 and is tied for 39th place at even-par 144.

Junior Leila Raines posted a 3-over par in Monday’s round and is tied for 58th place at 2-over par 146.

Junior Valentina Rossi carded the best round of the day for the Spartans with a 1-under par 71 and is tied for 66th place at 3-over par 147.

Sophomore Shannon Kennedy rounds out the lineup for MSU, standing in a tie for 72nd place at 4-over par 148.

Playing as an individual, freshman Paula Balanzategui is in 91st place at 8-over par 152 after a 4-over par 76 on Monday.

Michigan State tees off in the final round starting at 8:45 a.m., playing alongside UNCW and Penn State.
