The fifth-ranked UNC men’s golf team returns to competition at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waimea, Hawai’i, the Tar Heels’ first start since the third week of October 2022.

Six of the top 10 teams in Golfstat’s national rankings are in the field at the Hapuna Golf Course, including No. 1 Auburn, No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Carolina, No. 6 Stanford and No. 10 Georgia Tech.

Five other top-30 teams are also competing, including defending NCAA champion and 20th-ranked Texas, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 16 Oklahoma State, No. 26 Oregon and No. 29 Washington.

The Tar Heels won three times in the fall, earning championship trophies at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas; the Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.; and the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.

Carolina’s lineup for its first event of the spring features sophomore David Ford (Peachtree Corners, Ga.), fifth-year senior Ryan Burnett (Lafayette, Calif.), senior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif.), junior Peter Fountain (Raleigh, N.C.) and senior Kenan Poole (Raleigh, N.C.).

Red-shirt freshman Nanu Mohan (Charlotte, N.C.) will be competing as an individual entry.

Senior Austin Greaser is not in the lineup. He had a minor procedure on his left hand last week. He is expected to return to the lineup in a few weeks.

Ford was medalist at the Stephens Cup in October and finished second at both the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic and the Williams Cup. Over the winter break he won the Jones Cup, his second amateur major title in six months (he also won the Southern Amateur last July). The 2022 ACC Freshman of the Year led the Tar Heels in the fall with a 69.40 stroke average.
