STARKVILLE – After two phenomenal performances to open up the spring in the UCF Challenge, freshman Izzy Pellot and sophomore Julia Lopez Ramirez have been named SEC Freshman of the Week and SEC Golfer of the Week respectively.
Izzy Pellot recorded the best score of her young Bulldog career in the UCF Challenge. In the opening round, Pellot sunk five birdies, including three on the back nine to card a 3-under par (69). Pellot recorded her second straight round in the 60s in the second round where she sunk five birdies throughout the round to finish 4-under par (68). 68 is tied for the tenth-lowest second-round score in program history. Pellot sunk four birdies throughout the final round to card 2-under (70). After 54 holes, Pellot finished tied for ninth with 9-under par (207) to mark the best finish of her freshman career. This is Pellot’s first career SEC Freshman of the Week honor and becomes the third Bulldog to earn the honor.
After yet another record-breaking performance in the UCF Challenge. Lopez Ramirez was tabbed SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week for the fourth time in Maroon and White. In the opening round, Lopez Ramirez rolled birdies on the first three holes of the back nine and would finish with nine in the round to card a 6-under par. 66 is tied for the third-lowest first-round in program history and the eighth-lowest round overall. Lopez Ramirez rolled birdies on six of the final nine holes of the round to shoot 64 (8-under par) in the second round. 64 is the lowest individual second round in program history and tied for the second-lowest individual round overall. Lopez Ramirez captured her third consecutive, and twenty-first total round in the 60s in the Maroon and White to lead State through the final round. Lopez Ramirez carded a 5-under (67) final round to finish second with 19-under par (197). 19-under par marks the lowest individual score in program history, breaking her own record of 16-under par (200) in the 2022 Paradise Invitational. 65 is the seventh-lowest final round in program history. Lopez Ramirez now sits only four spots back of the legendary Ally McDonald for most rounds in the 60s in a career (25).
The No. 7 Bulldogs will return to the course for The Show hosted by UNLV in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada on February 20-21st.
