SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team wrapped up its opening round of the spring on Sunday at the Puerto Rico Classic.
The Vols shot 3-under as a team during round one and enter round two tied for sixth place in the 13-team field.
Making just his second career start in UT’s lineup, Evan Woosley-Reed paced Tennessee with a 3-under round of 69 that included a 33 on the front nine. The true freshman sits tied for fifth place, just five strokes back of the lead.
Competing as an individual, Laurent Desmarchais also sits tied fifth after his own 3-under performance to log his fourth career sub-70 round.
Just one back from Woosley-Reed and Desmarchais is Caleb Surratt, who pieced together a 2-under 70 to record his team-high 10th under-par round of the season. The true freshman is tied for 10th place going into Monday’s round.
Following Surratt is Bryce Lewis who tallied a bogey-free back nine that included three birdies en route to a 71. The redshirt junior sits inside the top 20 and is tied for 19th entering the second round.
Also sitting tied for 19th in conclusion of round one is Jake Hall, who is also competing as an individual. With Sunday’s round of 71, Hall notched his 40th career round of par or better.
Lance Simpson provided Tennessee with its final counting round on Sunday after shooting a 3-over 75. The redshirt freshman sits tied for 61st going into Monday.
In his first round as a Vol, freshman Josh Hill logged a 6-over round and is tied at 69th.
Cade Russell, competing as an individual, concluded round one after shooting 7-over to enter Monday tied for 71st.
