RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Fifth-year senior Darcy Habgood paced the Washington State women’s golf team through its first two rounds of play at the San Diego Classic Monday, Feb. 13, as she sits in a tie for sixth place on the player leaderboard after carding 3-over; 147 through her first 36 holes of play at The Farms Golf Club.
Washington State, who is playing in its first tournament of the spring, wrapped up the opening two rounds of the San Diego Classic, formerly the Lamkin Invitational, in eighth place on the team leaderboard. The Cougars ended the first day with a team score of 619 (+43). WSU opened its day by carding 308 (+20) in the first round and sat in a tie for sixth place. WSU then added three strokes to its team score after shooting 23-over; 311 in the second round. Washington State heads into Tuesday’s final round just eight strokes shy of fifth place in the 12-team tournament.
Habgood posted rounds of 74-73 during the tournament’s first day. The fifth-year senior from Australia collected a total of five birdies to lead the Cougars, while her 23 pars were just one off sophomore Madelyn Gamble for the team lead. Habgood will open the third round in a tie for sixth place after carding 3-over; 147 during the first two rounds at the SDSU Classic.
Gamble currently leads the field at the San Diego Classic in par-5 scoring at -2, with Habgood just a stroke behind her at -1. The sophomore from Pleasant Hills, California ended her day in a tie for 18th carding shooting 8-over; 152.
Iowa State sits in first place at the end of the first day of the San Diego Classic after carding 16-over; 592. Georgia’s Jo Hua Hung leads the field at the SDSU Classic after 36 holes of play, as she enters the third round at 2-under; 142.
The third round of the San Diego Classic gets underway Tuesday, Feb. 14, at The Farms Golf Club. The round will open with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. Fans can follow all of the action at GolfStat.com.
