ROSEMONT, Ill. – Coming off of a career-best runner-up finish to lead the No. 5-ranked Fighting Illini to a team win at the Hal Williams Collegiate, fifth-year senior Tommy Kuhl has been selected as the Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Kuhl carded rounds of 68-70-65 at Magnolia Grove Golf Club’s Crossings Course in Mobile, Ala., to finish with a three-round total of 203 (-10). His performance helped lead the Illini to a 13-stroke win for the team’s third tourney title of the 2022-23 season.
- Led the Illini to the team’s third tournament win of the season at the Hal Williams Collegiate
- Matched his career lows for a single round (65) and a 54-hole score (203), both season bests for an Illini golfer
- Shot par or better on 49 of 54 holes and ranked third at the event with 15 birdies, including six birdies during a bogey-free final round
- Led the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.11)
- Averaged 67.7 over his three rounds, more than four strokes better than the course average of 72.0 on the week
It marks the second Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor of Kuhl’s career, and his first since April 7, 2022. The honor is the third this season for an Illini golfer with Adrien Dumont de Chassart claiming the award on Sept. 21, and Jackson Buchanan earning his first nod on Oct. 5.
