NASSAU, Bahamas – Ole Miss women’s golf capped off the team’s trip to Nassau with a seventh place finish at the Nexus Collegiate Invitational, ending the week at a three-day total of 919 (+55).
Showing improvement each day at Albany Golf Club, the Rebels were able to close a 4-stroke gap on the University of Minnesota by logging a 302 (+14) on Wednesday to move up into a tie for seventh place to wrap up the week. The team finished the week having tallied 32 total birdies collectively.
Chiara Tamburlini wound up finishing tied for 10th overall on the individual leaderboard when all was said and done, with the senior’s three-day total of 222 settling her at six-over par to conclude her time in Nassau. Tamburlini logged team-highs in par-3 (+2) and par-5 (+1) scoring, while also leading the Rebels with nine total birdies on the week.
The finish marks Tamburlini’s fourth time cracking the top 10 during the 2022-23 the season and 14th time of her career, moving her up into a tie with Dori Carter (2005-09) for the fifth-most career top 10 finishes.
A strong final day from Andrea Lignell ultimately punched her ticket into the top 20 as well for the Rebels, with Lignell’s second straight round of 74 (+2) helping to move the Sweden, native up into a tie for 12th. Lignell finished the week leading the team in par-4 scoring at an even par, ranking her fourth in the field overall.
Elle Johnson’s round of 73 (+1) on Wednesday would be the best for the Rebels on the day, with Johnson chalking up three birdies in her final round to claim a share of 47th.
Rounds of 81 (+9) from Ellen Hume and 87 (+15) from Natacha Host Husted rounded out the counting scores for Ole Miss on the day, with Host Husted earning a finish of 52nd and Hume a finish of 57th overall. McKinley Cunningham ended her week in 62nd after competing as an individual.
The Rebels will now return to Oxford for a short break before hitting the road once again to travel to Gainesville, Florida, for the annual Gators Invitational at Mark Bostick Golf Course. The tournament is set to run March 4-5 and marks the third consecutive season in which Ole Miss will take part in the event.
