Chirravuri, Rivera Pacing USC Men's Golf Early In Hawai'i

Men’s Golf | February 16, 2023

Freshman Mahanth Chirravuri, who has led USC in three tournaments already this season, got off to another strong start to pace the Trojan men’s golf team’s first day efforts at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course Hokuala in Lihu’e, Kaua’i on Thursday (Feb. 16).

The scheduled 18-hole opener was turned into a round-and-a-half as the schedule was updated due to anticipated inclement weather on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 17-18).

USC is 11th in the 21-team field at a combined 3-under, which includes a 6-over first round (294) and a nine-under start to the second round. BYU leads the event at 23-under while Arizona is second at 22-under.

No Trojan was under par in the first round. A strong front 9 gave way to struggles on the back. Chirravuri and senior Jack Boulger each posted 73s as team lows.

But USC found its collective way again to start the second round.

Chirravuri opened with five birdies over his first seven holes and turned at 4-under when play was halted. He is tied for 22nd at 3-under.

Sophomore Jackson Rivera is 3-under in the second round and 1-under for the tournament, as is Boulger, who eagled the par 5 4th hole in the second round. They are tied for 39th.

Junior Krando Nishiba is tied for 74th at 2-over while sophomore Gavin Aurilia and senior Parker Sisk (playing individually) are tied for 100th at 5-over.

Play resumes Saturday at 8:30 a.m. HT.
