Huskers Begin West Coast Swing


The Nebraska men’s golf team kicks off spring stroke play as they travel west for The Prestige in Palm Springs, Calif., Feb. 20-22. 

The University of Stanford and U.C. Davis co-host the tournament, which annually boasts one of the strongest fields in collegiate golf. This year is no exception, as the 27-team field features 11 top-50 teams according to GolfStat. 

The Huskers will arrive in Palm Springs on Sunday, Feb. 19, competing in a practice round at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West and its Par-71, 7,156-yard layout. The tournament will commence on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. (CT). 

No. 2 Auburn leads the way as the top ranked team in the field, along with No. 3 Texas Tech and No. 6 Stanford. No. 14 Pepperdine, the 2021 NCAA National Champions, also lead the pack. No. 23 Colorado State, No. 27 LSU, No. 30 Baylor, No. 34 Northwestern, No. 37 Liberty, No. 41 TCU, No. 43 Louisville, and  No.48 Kansas are all ranked inside the top 50 of the latest GolfStat rankings and will be competing alongside Nebraska, who is ranked 74th, respectively.

Nebraska’s five-player lineup will be led by two juniors, Jeremy Sisson (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Reed Malleck (York, Neb.). Sisson continues to play exceptional golf for the Big Red, currently holding a 72.73 stroke average. Malleck carries a 74.20 stroke average into this weekend’s action. 

Two freshmen, Quinn Yost (Farmington, N.M.) and Evan McDermott (Spring Lake, Mich.), have become mainstays in the Husker lineup. Both have competed in eight rounds, with Yost compiling a 74.50 stroke average, while McDermott has a 74.00 stroke average, respectively. 

Senior Will Marshall (Ellburn, Ill.) will round out the Nebraska lineup in Palm Springs. Marshall has appeared in every Nebraska lineup this season and holds a 73.45 stroke average in 11 rounds. 

Grant Jabenis (So., Omaha, Neb.) will also compete individually at The Golf Club at Terra Lago’s North Course in Indio, Calif. Jabenis has a 74.83 stroke average in six rounds this season.
