MELBOURNE, Fla. – Emilie Øverås finished at 3-under par and Benedetta Moresco was 1-under to lead the Alabama women’s golf team in the opening round of the Moon Golf Invitational Sunday. As a team, the Crimson Tide ended in 14th place in the 17-team field with a team total of 1-over par 289.
Øverås, who is competing in her first competitive round in the Tide’s starting lineup this year, finished with three birdies during her bogey-free round to end the day in a tie for 13th overall. Meanwhile, Moresco is in a tie for 29th after her round of 71 marked the eighth round of par or better this season. Sarah Edwards finished at even par 72 to give Alabama three golfers at par or better in round one.
Monday’s second round will tee off 8:20 a.m. CT (9:20 a.m. ET) on the par 72, 6,362-yard Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla. The Tide will be paired alongside Augusta, North Carolina and Louisville.
First Round Highlights
- Emilie Øverås is competing in the starting lineup for the first time in the 2022-23 season and earned her fourth career round in the 60s following Sunday’s round of 69
- Benedetta Moresco’s round of 71 was her eighth round this season and 37th career round of par or better
- Sarah Edwards was the third Crimson Tide golfer to shoot par or better with her round of event par 72 to end the day in a tie for 40th overall
- Both Kynadie Adams and Taylor Kehoe finished at 5-over par 77 to end the day in a tie for 84th
