Michigan State Tied for Ninth Place at Moon Golf Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team shot a 3-under par 285 in the first round and is tied for ninth place among 17 teams at the Moon Golf Invitational, being hosted by the University of Louisville at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla.

The tournament continues on the par-72, 6,349-yard course on Monday at 8 a.m. and concludes on Tuesday, with a 9 a.m. start.

First Round Results

The 17-team field includes 13 teams ranked among the top-50 in the country by Golfstat.

No. 9 LSU leads the field at 12-under par 276, with No. 21 UCF in second at 10-under par 278. Clemson is in third place at 9-under par 279, with Northwestern and Florida tied for fourth place at 7-under par 281.

The Spartans, ranked No. 41, are tied for ninth place with Arkansas (No. 25) at 3-under par 285.

Junior Leila Raines shot a 3-under par 69 and is tied for 13th place to lead the Spartans. Raines finished the round with four birdies, including three on the back nine.

Sophomores Brooke Biermann and Katie Lu and junior Valentina Rossi are all tied for 40th place with scores of even-par 72. Biermann closed out the back nine at 2-under par, including a birdie on 18. Lu played the front nine at 2-under par before finishing her round at even. Rossi had four birdies and was 2-uner par through 17 holes before closing out with a double bogey.

Sophomore Shannon Kennedy is tied for 73rd place at 3-over par 75.

Playing as individuals, freshman Paula Balanzategui is tied for 78th place at 4-over par 76 and senior Nina Rissi is tied for 90th place at 7-over par 79.

Michigan State will tee off at 8 a.m. on Monday, playing alongside Arkansas, Michigan and Florida State.
