North Carolina’s Megan Streicher made seven birdies and shot a season-best 5-under-par Sunday in round one of the Moon Golf Invitational at the Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla.
Streicher’s 67 is the third-best round ever by a Tar Heel freshman, one off Ava Bergner’s 66 in 2017-18 and Ashley Prange’s 66 in 2000-01.
Senior Krista Junkkari shot a 1-under 71 and junior Crista Izuzquiza finished with a 2-over 74.
Carolina is 15th in the 18-team field after an opening-round 3-over 291. LSU leads at 12 under with UCF second at 10 under.
UCF’s Tunrada Piddon has the first-round lead after shooting 65. Three players shot 66 and Streicher is tied for fifth at 5 under, two off the lead.
Junkkari and Streicher were among 39 players in the field to shoot under par.
Round two of the 54-hole tournament is Monday.
