Spartans Complete Second Round of Moon Golf Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State junior women’s golf Leila Raines shot a 3-under par 69 on Monday and is in seventh place individually and the Spartans are in 10th place among 17 teams at the Moon Golf Invitational, being hosted by the University of Louisville at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday, with a 9 a.m. start.

The 17-team field includes 13 teams ranked among the top-50 in the country by Golfstat.

Second Round Results

No. 9 LSU continues to lead the field, standing in first place at 26-under par 550. Auburn in second place at 17-under par 559, while UCF and Northwestern are tied for fifth place with scores of 15-under par 561 and Florida and Michigan are tied for fifth place at 12-under par 564.

The Spartans shot a 1-over par 289 Monday and are in 10th place with a 36-hole score of 2-under par 574 (285-289).

Raines posted her second-straight round of 3-under par 69 and is in seventh place in the field of 97 golfers at 6-under par 138, just four shots off the lead.

Junior Valentina Rossi is tied for 50th place at 1-over par 145, posting a 1-over par 73 on Monday.

Sophomore Katie Lu shot a 2-over par 74 in the second round and is tied for 57th place at 2-over par 146.

Sophomore Brooke Biermann finished two rounds at 3-over par 147, posting a 3-over par 75 on Monday and classmate Shannon Kennedy is one shot back, tied for 69th place at 4-over par 148. She tied for the team’s second-best round of the day with a 1-over par 73.

Playing as individuals, freshman Paula Balanzategui is tied for 84th place at 10-over par 154, carding a 6-over par 78 on Monday, and senior Nina Rissi is tied for 93rd place at 16-over par 160.

Michigan State will tee off at 9 a.m. on Monday, playing alongside Arkansas, North Carolina and Florida State.
