NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt has a quick turnaround from last week’s seventh-place finish at the Moon Golf Invitational as it travels to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate starting Monday.
“The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is always the one tournament I have circled on the schedule,” Vandy head coach Greg Allen. “It’s my absolute favorite and has been since it was created.”
The field this week at Long Cove Club consists of many top-ranked and familiar foes. Vandy (18) will compete against Alabama, Arizona State (11), Arkansas, Auburn (15), Baylor (9), Duke (25), Furman, Georgia, Howard, Kentucky (22), LSU (7), Northwestern (21), Oregon (3), South Carolina (4), Texas (8), Virginia (14) and Wake Forest (2).
“We’ve been fortunate to play in every one and I am grateful to get this opportunity,” Allen said. “It’s for sure the strongest field in the regular season played on one of the best courses in the country, in my opinion.
Looking to capture the same success that led to her top-three finish last season at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, senior Celina Sattelkau leads the Vanderbilt lineup this week. Tess Davenport, Tillie Claggett, Virginie Ding and Natasha Kiel will join her.
The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is hosted at the par 71, 6301-yard Long Cove Club course on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. A Pete Dye designed course, Long Cove Club is known for being a difficult, narrow, water-lined course with difficult greens.
At last season’s tournament, only four individual golfers finished below par, including Sattelkau. The team tournament champions Wake Forest finished 9-over par. Vanderbilt came in 12th.
“It’s a very quick turnaround from the Moon Golf Invitational so we didn’t have a ton of time to work on some things we needed to improve on,” Allen said. “But I’m confident that our young ladies will come out and play hard.”
Vanderbilt will tee off on No. 10 at 9:10 a.m. CT with Northwestern and Baylor. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
Live broadcast courtesy of GOLF Channel will be from 1:30-4:30 CT. Monday-Wednesday.
