Bears Coming Off Third-Place Finish
Following last week’s rain-shortened Causeway Invitational, the California women’s golf team is set for another week of potentially weather-impacted competition in the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational this coming Monday and Tuesday in Fairfax.
“We’re looking forward to finishing last week’s tournament a little bit. I think we come in feeling there was unfinished business,” Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. “I think this weather is going to stick with us, so we can learn a little bit more about how we are when we’re challenged, go back out and make some tiny adjustments, put our rain game to work and see what we get.”
With only the first round officially counting last week in Sacramento, the Golden Bears finished just four strokes shy of first-place. They ended the 18-hole tournament with the third-best team score of 8-over 296.
Senior Tzu-Yi Chang and freshman Adora Liu led the way with a pair of season-best performances, both tying for second overall at 1-under 71. Liu will be in Cal’s main lineup for the first time in the spring, as will senior Jasmine Lew. They join Chang, junior Cristina Ochoa and junior Mika Jin.
Graduate student Annika Borrelli, senior Kristine Tran and freshman Kaylyn Noh will also be competing for the Bears as individuals.
“We have some new players in the lineup. Out of our eight players, we’re taking all of our seniors,” Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. “Just seeing some different people performing in the top-five is always good. We’re looking forward to it.”
The San Jose State-hosted tournament is scheduled to begin with 36 holes on Monday in an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
