GAINESVILLE, Fla. — With top-25 finishes from seniors Anika Dy and Hailey Borja, the 34th-ranked University of Michigan women’s golf team used a 589 36-hole total to finish 10th on Sunday (March 4) in the rain-shortened VyStar Credit Union Gators Invitational at Florida’s Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Following heavy winds and rains threatening in the practice round, the 14-team field headed out for Saturday’s (March 4) first round with rain falling. As water collected on the course, play was suspended and the second round was canceled, reducing Florida’s home event to 36 holes.
Returning Sunday morning, Borja’s 73 (+3) and Dy’s 74 (+4) highlighted U-M’s opening 298 tally to put it 10th after completing the first 18 holes. Immediately heading into the second round, Dy used an even-par 70, while Borja and junior Monet Chun each had 72s to help the Wolverines improve with a 291, but keeping them in the 10th spot with a 589 total.
With her 144 (74-70) total, Dy led the Wolverines for the second time this season, posting a tie for 17th place. Borja was just behind in 21st (145) — her fifth top-25 finish in eight events this season. After her opening 76, Chun rallied with her 72 to tie for 35th at 148.
In less than two weeks, the Wolverines will head west for their next tournament, the PING/ASU Invitational, from Friday through Sunday, March 24-26. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the Papago Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. Last season…
