Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Gators Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ole Miss women’s golf capped off their weekend with a fourth place finish at the Gators Invitational, shooting a 575 (+15) over the two rounds at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

After having the tournament shortened to just 36 holes after a rain-filled Saturday, the Rebels were able to navigate the elements of Gainesville to finish with a tournament-leading 29 birdies as a team.

Senior Andrea Lignell returned to her strong fall form by tallying yet another Top 3 finish on the year, grabbing sole possession of third after putting together two rounds of 67 (-3) on the weekend to finish six-under par. Lignell ultimately finished first amongst all golfers in par-5 scoring (-5) on the weekend, while also ranking second amongst all golfers in total birdies with 11 over her two rounds of action.

With her third place finish, Lignell now ties herself for second in the Ole Miss women’s golf record book for most Top 5 finishes in a single season, sitting at five on the year. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native is just one shy of tying Julia Johnson’s school record of six Top 5 finishes, which was set during the 2017-18 season for the Rebels.

Chiara Tamburlini also put together a strong final day for the Rebels, with her second round score of 69 (-1) propelling the St. Gallen, Switzerland, native up into a tie for 13th to cap off her weekend. The senior was able to make a late charge up the leaderboard despite starting four-over in her front nine of the second round, with Tamburlini connecting on six birdies in her back nine to go under par for the sixth time this season.

Seniors Elle Johnson and Ellen Hume saw mirror performances over the weekend to both shoot 150 (+10) on the weekend, tying the Rebel duo for 46th. Molly Hardwick rounded out the Rebel lineup by carding a 156 (+16), tying the freshman for 63rd in just her second collegiate appearance with the team.

The Rebels will now have a quick turnaround for their next tournament, as the team travels to Georgia to defend their 2022 team title at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The tournament is set to take place March 11-12 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
