FIVE TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF THE INVESTEC SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN’S OPEN

It is the second week of the South African double-header and this week the LET is in Cape Town for the Investec South African Women’s Open.

Steenberg Golf Club is hosting the tournament once again which will see 132 players from 29 nations vying for the trophy.

Before the tournament gets underway, here are few points to look out for…

Pace aiming for three-peat

Lee-Anne Pace is feeling the comforts of playing at home this week in Cape Town as she aims to win a third Investec SA Women’s Open in a row having won in both the 2021 and 2022 editions.

If the South African star were to win again it would also be the sixth time she has ever won the title having in 2014, when it was co-sanctioned, as well as 2015 and 2017.

Buhai back on the LET in South Africa

2022 AIG Women’s Open champion Ashleigh Buhai has returned to the Investec SA Women’s Open for the first time since 2020.

The 2018 champion, who is now world number 18, is excited to be able to tee it up on the LET in her homeland and comes into the tournament off the back of an excellent start to the year.

Humphreys feeling back to ‘normal’

Last week was a whirlwind for England’s Lily May Humphreys who clinched her maiden LET title at the 2023 Joburg Ladies Open.

The 20-year-old produced rounds of 70 (-3), 70 (-3), 73 (E) and 67 (-6) to come out on top at Modderfontein and hopes to continue her good form this week.

Former champions aplenty

Lee-Anne Pace and Ashleigh Buhai are not the only former champions teeing it up this week at Steenberg Golf Club.

Alice Hewson (2020), Diksha Dagar (2019), Marianne Skarpnord (2013) and Tandi McCallum (2009) will all be trying to win the Investec SA Women’s Open again.

Gomez Ruiz leads qualifiers

On Monday, there was a pre-qualifier for the Investec SA Women’s Open with five spots up for grabs and it was tough conditions with a lot of wind and 75mm of rain having fallen in the 24 hours previously.

However, it was Spain’s Laura Gomez Ruiz who scored top spot with a total of one-under while Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar, Spain’s Elena Hualde, Germany’s Helen Tamy Kreuzer and Nigeria’s Georgia Iziemgbe Oboh all secured their place.
