PINEHURST, North Carolina — Daniel Svard continued his run of impressive performances with a career-best runner-up result at the Wake Forest Invitational contested at Pinehurst #2. Northwestern posted the best score on the leaderboard in Tuesday’s final round to secure a second-place finish in a field that included eight teams ranked in the Top-50.

Svard (69-71-70=210 [E]) was one of four Wildcats in the tournament’s Top-30 when the final scorecard was signed. He has opened the spring season with a 3-0-1 performance at the Big Ten Match Play Championships, a T15 result at The Prestige, and now a second-place finish at Pinehurst.
As a team, Northwestern has yet to finish outside of the Top-5 in any event this year, with consistent performance coming from every part of the lineup. James Imai finished T22 this week, after a team-best T9 finish at The Prestige in Feburary. David Nyfjall, the 2022 Big Ten Champion, was T18 in Palm Desert and equaled Imai’s T22 at Pinehurst.
Competing as an individual, rookie Ethan Tseng was perhaps the story of the tournament’s first two rounds, firing back-to-back 69’s and ultimate finishing T18 on the leaderboard.
The Wildcats will get nearly three weeks to rest and hone their games, while balancing Northwestern’s winter quarter final exams, before teeing up the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in Palm City, Florida on March 27.
