SAN DIEGO – The UCLA men’s golf team finished fifth out of 15 teams at the Lamkin San Diego Classic at San Diego Country Club on Tuesday with a score of 3-under 861 (287-286-288). It was UCLA’s first under-par finish at a tournament this season.
Pablo Ereño led a trio of Bruins with top-20 finishes, tying for 12th at 3-under for the tournament (71-70-72). Sophomore Omar Morales and senior Mason Greene tied for 15th at 2-under. This is the first time the Bruins had three individuals finish under par for a tournament since Nov. 1-3, 2019, at the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational.
New Mexico won the team title with a 20-under 844 thanks to an 8-under 280 in its final round to finish one stroke ahead of course host San Diego State. Washington’s Petr Hruby won the individual medal by four strokes at 12-under.
Greene’s 4-under 68 was UCLA’s highlight on day two, rising 18 spots on the individual leader board. Greene birdied six times and bogeyed just twice in his third round. It was Greene’s third score of 68 and fifth under-par score this season. Ereño recorded four birdies in his even-par 72 in round three.
Alvaro Muller tied for 42nd at 6-over while Kyle An tied for 70th at 11-over.
Next, the Bruins play a single-day match versus Harvard on March 18 at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif.
