August Meekhof Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State junior men’s golfer August Meekhof was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Thursday afternoon.

Meekhof fired an 11-under par 205 over three rounds and finished in first place, helping to lead the Spartans to a third place finish among 12 teams at the Colleton River Collegiate, played on the Jack Nicklaus Course in Bluffton, S.C. on Monday and Tuesday.

Meekhof entered the day in a tie for seventh place but fired a 4-under par 68 to finish at 11-under par 205 (68-69-68) and one shot ahead four others, Ben Carr of Georgia Southern, Ben Warian of Minnesota, Alfons Bondesson from Missouri and Nicklaus Mason from Kansas State.

Meekhof had four birdies, including three on the back nine, and 14 pars in the final round. He played 54 holes with 13 pars, was sixth in the field of 72 golfers with 39 pars and bogeyed only two holes.

His score of 205 is tied for the seventh-lowest 54-hole score in program history.

The Spartans are back in action on Monday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 14, playing in the Johnnie-O at Sea Island, being played at the Sea Island Resort in Sea Island, Georgia.
