Kayla Smith's 70 Leads Women's Golf In Tucson

Kayla Smith and Megan Streicher both shot under par and Crista Izuzquiza shot even to lead the University of North Carolina women’s golf team to a 1-over-par finish in round one of the MountainView Collegiate Friday in Tucson, Ariz.
The Tar Heels are tied with Nebraska for 10th place at 1-over 289. TCU leads at 12-under 276, three strokes ahead of Ohio State and sixth-ranked San Jose State.
Smith shot 2-under 70 and Streicher, a freshman, shot 71. Izuzquiza finished at even-par 72, Vilde Nystrøm shot 76 and Natalia Aseguinolaza had a 78.
Iowa State’s Karisa Chul-ak-sorn and TCU’s Caitlyn Macnab share first place in the individual standings at 7-under 65.
Round two of the 54-hole tournament is Saturday at the MountainView Golf Club.
