TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s golf team is back in action this weekend when it competes at the 2023 Linger Longer Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State University. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Sunday through Tuesday at the par 72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Eatonton, Ga.
THE LINEUP
· The Crimson Tide’s starting five for the event will include Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder, Nick Dunlap, Jonathan Griz and JP Cave
· Jones Free will also be competing in the event as an individual
· The trio of Claycomb, Ponder and Dunlap are the only three UA golfers to compete in the Tide’s lineup for every event of the year
· Claycomb, who has carded seven rounds of par or lower this spring, leads the team with 15 rounds of par or better
· Ponder (71.38) enters field as one of three UA golfers who are averaging under 72.00 strokes per round, joining Dunlap (70.81) and Claycomb (71.10)
· Dunlap leads the Tide in average strokes per round (70.81) and average vs par (-0.62) after finishing tied for 15th at the Cabo Collegiate and earning his sixth top-20 finish of the year
· Jonathan Griz and JP Cave round out the Tide’s starting five for the event, respectfully
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
· The Tide has appeared in the event 11 times, bringing home five team championships with three being back-to-back-to-back in 2011, 2012 and 2013
· The 16-team field features seven teams in the nation’s top 50 according to Golfweek.com, including No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 16 Virginia, No. 18 Alabama, No. 24 Georgia, No. 41 UNC Greensboro and No. 43 Arkansas
· Other teams in the field include Augusta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Clemson, Kennesaw State, Mercer, South Alabama, South Florida and Wofford
