Nebraska Travels to Carolina for Seahawk Intercollegiate


The Nebraska men’s golf team returns to action March 26-27 to compete in the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C.

Action will tee off on Sunday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT), where teams will play 36 holes. Final round action tees off on Monday, also at 7:30 a.m. (CT). 

The teams will traverse the Country Club of Landfall and the Nicklaus Course and its Par-72, 7,031-yard layout. The tournament is hosted by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

The field making the trip to Carolina includes a slew of east coast teams. Nebraska, along with No. 28 TCU, are the only two teams west of the Mississippi River who will make the trip.

No. 51 Clemson,  No. 71 UNCW, No. 76 Davidson, No. 80 Wright State, and No. 93 Toledo, Maryland, James Madison, Appalachian State, Francis Marion, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, USC Upstate, Stetson, Georgetown, Charleston Southern round out the 16 team field. 

The Huskers will lean on experience this weekend. Four upperclassmen – Will Marshall, Caleb Badura, Gentry Scheve, and Reed Malleck – have competed in a total of 132 rounds in their careers. Marshall and Badura both competed in the Seahawk Intercollegiate in 2022, where Marshall finished 32nd which placed him first among Huskers. Badura 82nd despite a first-round DQ.  

Quinn Yost (Farmington, N.M.), the lone freshman in the lineup, holds a 75.33 stroke average through 11 rounds in 2022-23. He last competed at The Prestige in Palm Springs, Calif. Feb. 20-22. 

Caleb Badura (Sr., Aurora, Neb.) and Gentry Scheve (Jr., Emporia, Kan.) both have competed in one event for NU this season but will be making their return to the lineup this weekend. Badura finished 0-2-1 at Big Ten Match Play on Feb. 3-4 and Scheve finished T-91st at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate (Sept. 23-24.)

Huskers Look To Build On Past Experience

Will Marshall leads an experienced Husker lineup into Wilmington this weekend. In his career, Marshall has competed in 50 rounds and carries a stroke average of 74.88. This season, he has already surpassed his career high in rounds played (17) and holds a stroke average of 74. Marshall, along with Caleb Badura, competed in the Seahawk Intercollegiate in 2022.
