Spartans Complete Day One at the ASU Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team shot a 13-over par 301 in the first round and tied for 11th place among 17 teams at the ASU Invitational, being hosted by Arizona State University at Papago Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz.

The three-day stroke play event will continue on Saturday, March 25, with the final round on Sunday, March 26.

The 17-team field includes three teams ranked in the top-10 and seven among the top-15 in the country by Golfstat.

Northwestern fired a 6-under par 282 and leads the field by eight shots, with Baylor, Oregon and Mississippi State tied for second place at 2-over par 290 and Texas rounds out the top-five teams at 6-over par 294.

The Spartans are tied for 11th place with Southern California.

Sophomore Brooke Biermann shot a 1-over par 73 and is tied for 22nd place to lead the Spartans.

Sophomore Shannon Kennedy finished with a 3-over par 75 and is tied for 39th place, while junior Leila Raines is tied for 50th place at 4-over par 76.

Sophomore Katie Lu is tied for 55th place at 5-over par 77 and junior Valentina Rossi is tied for 60th place with a score of 6-over par 78.

The Spartans tee off at 11 a.m. (ET), playing alongside Oregon State and Southern California.
