Wang in Contention after First Round Action at Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, S.C. – The Illinois women’s golf team opened the Clemson Invitational in 12th place after carding a first round total of 302 (+14) heading into Saturday’s second round at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

Crystal Wang ended the day tied for second at 3-under, one stroke off of clubhouse leader Savannah Grewal (Clemson). Wang started the day with back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11, and tallied two more birdies on the back nine, taking the turn at 4-under. Wang then went 1-over on the front to card a 69. Her five birdies are tied for second most in the tournament.

Isabel Sy is tied for 36th at 3-over, shooting an even-par back nine before a 39 on the front.

Siyan Chen, Mattie Frick and Lexanne Halama are all tied for 60th at 7-over. Frick bounced back from a 6-over back nine and went 1-over on the front, picking up a pair of birdies in the process.

Hosts Clemson led the tournament at 7-under (281).

Saturday’s second round begins with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. CT.
