Cats Hold Position in Second Day of PING/ASU Invitational

PHOENIX, Ariz. – For a second consecutive day, senior Gile Bite Starkute wrapped up No. 15 Arizona Women’s Golf’s round at the PING/ASU Invitational as the Cats’ top finisher. Starkute carded a 2-over par round of 74 in Saturday’s second round and sits in a tie for 17th place at 1-over entering Sunday’s final round. The Wildcats sit in a tie for 15th place at 29-over par after two rounds.

“Today was another tough day for us on the course,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “I felt like we would come out with better scores today, but it just wasn’t in the cards for us. We have a resilient group, and I feel good about tomorrow’s round. I look forward to our team showing some improvement.”

Freshman Julia Misemer recorded Arizona’s best round of the day with a 1-over round of 73 on Saturday, which marked six-stroke improvement.

Starkute made her move on Saturday by sinking birdies on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes after shooting 2-over on the front nine. Arizona tallied seven birdies as a team after the turn on Saturday after sinking just two on the front nine.

A crowded pack of 17 players are separated by two strokes, and that is where Starkute sits entering Sunday’s finale.
