ATHENS, Ga. – No. 4 South Carolina carded a field-best score of 284 (-4) on Saturday to move into second place at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The Gamecocks were one of just three teams in the field to post a red number in round two.
Senior Mathilde Claisse led the team with a big bounce back round of 69 (-3) where she made just one bogey and four birdies. Sophomore All-American Louise Rydqvist shot 71 (-1) with birdies on three of her five final holes of the rounds. She’s one shot back of leader Elina Sinz of Auburn.
Fellow sophomore All-American Hannah Darling climbed the leaderboard into a tie for 10th after also shooting 71 (-1). She made three birdies and had an eagle at the par-5 17th hole. Freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand was the final counting score with a 73 (+1). Grad transfer Katherine Muzi also shot 73 (+1). They are T-22nd at 3-over for the tournament. Senior Justine Fournand, who is playing as an individual this week, shot 72 (E) with a trio of red numbers on her scorecard.
No. 10 Auburn remains in the lead by 11 shots over Carolina thanks to a 286 (-2) today. The Gamecocks and Tigers are the only teams in the field under par through 36 holes. A comeback victory tomorrow for Carolina would be its third-straight win at the event.
The Gamecocks will be paired with Auburn and No. 21 Florida for the Sunday’s final round. It’s 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start for the field. Live scoring will be available again via Golfstat.
