PHOENIX – The Washington State women’s golf team ended the second round of the 2023 PING ASU Invitational in 14th on the team leaderboard after shooting 305 (+17) as a team.
Sophomore Madelyn Gamble led the way for the Cougars for the second-straight day at the PING ASU Invitational, as the Pleasant Hill, California native carded a team-best 3-over; 75 in Saturday’s second round. Gamble will open Sunday’s third and final round in a tie for 17th, as she is currently shooting 1-over; 145.
The Cougars head into their final round of play at the Papago Golf Course in 14th on the team leaderboard. WSU enters Sunday at 24-over; 600 through 36 holes of play. The Cougs shot 17-over; 305 in Saturday’s second round.
Fifth-year senior Darcy Habgood currently leads the field in par-3 scoring, as Habgood is shooting 2-under on par-3 holes through two days of play at the PING ASU Invitational. Overall, the fifth-year senior is shooting 4-over; 148 through the tournament’s first two rounds to put her in a tie for 39th on the player leaderboard.
Freshman Lily McCauley finished one stroke behind Gamble on Saturday, as McCauley carded 4-over; 76 in the second round. McCauley is tied with fellow freshman Emiko Sverduk for 70th on the player leaderboard, as each WSU golfer is shooting 10-over; 154 through two rounds.
No. 23-ranked Northwestern sits atop the team leaderboard at the end of two rounds of play. The Wildcats have carded 12-under; 564 through the tournament’s first two rounds. Northwestern’s Kelly Sim and Mississippi State’s Julia Lopez Ramirez are tied for first on the player leaderboard at the end of two rounds, as each golfer has shot 7-under; 137.
The third round of the PING ASU Invitational gets underway this Sunday, March 26, at the Papago Golf Course. Washington State will tee off at 8:15 a.m. PT. Fans can follow live results at GolfStat.com.
