Crockett Tied for First After Round 1 at Hootie

Senior Charlie Crockett sits in a tie for first place after the opening round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay.

Crockett carded a 66 during the first 18 holes of action, one of five golfers to finish six-under on the opening day. The senior got off to a strong start with an eagle on the second hole before adding three birdies to go out with a five-under 32 on the front nine. His final birdie of the day on the 17th hole moved him into the first-place tie as his 66 is the second-best round of his 2022-23 season.

Freshman Alfons Bondesson is in 14th place after a four-under 68 on Sunday. The rookie tallied five birdies to just one bogey to record his seventh under-par round in his last nine.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Dawson Meek also tallied a four-under 68 in the first 18 holes of action – his career-best tally by three strokes. Meek recorded four birdies in his final seven holes to finish the day strong and move up the leaderboard.

As a team, the Tigers sit in sixth place of 15 schools at -7, just one stroke behind fourth place. Nationally-ranked East Tennessee State (-19) and Purdue (-14) are first and second after the first 18 holes of action.

The second round is set to begin Monday morning at 8 a.m. CT.
