AWENDAW, S.C. – South Carolina remains 10th after 36 holes at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot 280 (-8) with a trio of counting scores posting red numbers. There was an hour weather delay at Bulls Bay Golf Club today but teams still managed to complete the second round of play.
Fifth-year senior Evans Lewis and sophomore Nathan Franks each shot 69 (-3) to lead Carolina. Lewis made four birdies and an eagle at the par-5 fourth hole. Franks made four birdies and had just one bogey on his scorecard at the difficult par-4 18th hole.
Freshman Zach Adams also fired a red number with a 2-under 70. He made three birdies and had just one bogey at the par-4 16th hole. Transfer Lansdon Robbins was the final counting score with an even par 72. He was 2-over through 10 holes but birdied a pair coming in to get back to even. Junior Rafe Reynolds shot 73 (+1) with a trio of birdies in a four hole stretch on the front nine. Sophomore Gene Zeigler, who is competing as an individual this week, carded an impressive bogey free round of 69 (-3).
Carolina is one shot back of sixth and 10 shots back of cracking the top-five. ETSU remains in the lead at 28-under by six shots over Purdue. The Bucs were co-champs of last year’s event alongside the Gamecocks.
Kentucky’s Alex Goff has the individual lead by three shots. He currently sits at 13-under through 36 holes with a 66 (-6) on Sunday and a 65 (-7) today.
Carolina will be paired with VCU and West Virginia for the final round on Tuesday. Reynolds will be the first Gamecock off at 8:54 a.m. (ET).
