Seminoles in Third Place Through Two Rounds at Valspar Collegiate Invitational

PALM CITY, Fla. – Playing in one of the nation’s most competitive tournaments, the seventh-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf team held its own through the first two rounds at The Valspar Collegiate Invitational. The Seminoles enter Tuesday’s final round in third place at 10-under, eight shots back of first-place and No. 3-ranked Texas Tech.

The 16-team field at Floridian Golf Club includes 13 teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 50. Freshman Jack Bigham (-4; 68-70) and junior Brett Roberts (-4; 65-73) are each tied for 10th place and six shots back of the leader Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech (-10).

The highlight of Monday came when junior Frederik Kjettrup delivered a hole-in-one in the opening round on the par-3, 146-yard eighth hole. The Denmark native is 2-under overall (69-75) and tied at 40th.

Redshirt junior Cole Anderson was steady through the first day, carding a score of 3-under (70-69) as he was the only counting Seminole who improved his score in the second round. Anderson is tied for 15th.

Florida State led the tournament by shooting 12-under through the opening round, but it lost a few strokes when it countered with a 2-over showing in the second round of play. Roberts’ first-round 65 included seven birdies and four consecutive on holes 5-8. Bigham’s opening 68 had six birdies and three straight on holes 15-17.

For Roberts, his 65 in the first round tied a career low that he set in the second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Sept. 11, 2022.

The top five at The Valspar Collegiate Invitational includes Texas Tech (-18), North Carolina (-15), Florida State (-10), Arizona State (-9), Texas (-5) and Ohio State (-5).

Pairings for the final round will be updated later in the night on Golfstat.com.
