Marshall, Scheve Record New Career Bests in Carolina

Wilmington, N.C. – Senior Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) and junior Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) both set new career-best rounds as the Nebraska men’s golf team capped off their two-day run at the Seahawk Intercollegiate on Monday.

Marshall’s final-round performance of 67 (-5) triumphed over his previous mark of 68 (-4), which he set at the Badger Invitational in Verona, Wisc. Sept. 13, 2022. His 54-hole score of 213 (-3) was one stroke off his career-best (212, Quail Valley, 10/18/21). He also tallied the second highest finish in his career, finishing 19th.

Scheve shot a 70 (-2) on Monday to beat his previous low of 71 (Hawkeye Invite, 4/17/22). His three-round score of 219 (+3) also set a career-best.

Reed Malleck, the junior from York, Neb., joined in on the fun Monday, tying his career-low round score of 69 (-3). He also set a new career-low 54-hole score of 216 (E). This is the second tournament in a row he tied his career-best.

Behind the stellar play throughout the Husker lineup, Nebraska surged four spots on the leaderboard Monday to claim a tie for 12th place with Coastal Carolina. The Huskers three-round score of 879 (+9) also marked their best effort of the spring.

TCU took home the team championship in a back-and-forth battle with Wright State and hosts UNC-Wilmington. The Horned Frogs finished with a stellar team score of 843 (-21), while Wright State came in one stroke behind. UNC-Wilmington, who took home the Seahawk Intercollegiate trophy in 2022, used a 275 (-13) to fly up the leaderboards, but ultimately fell short.

Barend Botha (Toledo) took home the individual title at the Country Club of Landfall with a three-round score of 204 (-12).

Caleb Badura (Sr., Aurora, Neb.) made his stroke-play debut for the Big Red this weekend. He finished with a 225 (+9), which included a final-round 73 (+1), his best round of the tournament.

Quinn Yost (Fr., Farmington, N.M.) rounded out the Husker contingent with a three-round score of 238 (+22).
