Lopez Ramirez Set to Make Augusta National Women’s Amateur Debut

EVANS, GA. – This week, for the fourth time in five years, the best amateur women’s players in the world will descend upon Augusta, Georgia, ahead of the fourth installment of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Sophomore standout Julia Lopez Ramirez will make her debut in the ANWA on Wednesday and will be representing the Maroon and White throughout the week. Lopez Ramirez is the second Bulldog chosen to compete in the prestigious AWNA, following fellow teammate Ashley Gilliam who was chosen in 2021.

Lopez Ramirez has six top-five finishes in her nine starts this season, including her fourth individual win in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in October and runner-up in the UCF Challenge in February. She has not finished outside the top 20 in any start this season.

Lopez Ramirez is no stranger to the amateur spotlight. In the summer, Lopez Ramirez went 3-1-0 as a member of the winning International Arnold Palmer Cup team in Switzerland, finishing T-11 in the World University Golf Championships in Italy and reached match play in the Women’s Amateur Championship in England.

As a freshman in 2021-2022, Lopez Ramirez earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention All-America honors with top-10 finishes in eight of her 12 starts, including three victories in the Sam Golden Invitational, Paradise Invitational and Westbrook Invitational.

Lopez Ramirez will tee off from the first tee at 7:12 am CT in the first round and will be accompanied by Anne Chen of Duke University and Hsin-Yu Lu of the University of Oregon. In Thursday’s second round, Lopez Ramirez will tee off from the 10th tee at 8:55 am CT.

The Augusta National Women’s Amateur begins Wednesday, with the first two rounds at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Following a day off for all players to participate in a practice round at Augusta National, those who make the cut (top 30 and ties after two rounds) will compete in Saturday’s finale at Augusta National Golf Club.

Golf Channel will showcase the opening two rounds, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. CT on both days. NBC will host the final round, from 11:00-2:30 p.m.
