AUGUSTA, Ga. – Ole Miss women’s golf will have Rebels from past and present in attendance at the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur this year, with a trio of golfers set to make the trip from Mississippi to Georgia.
Seniors Andrea Lignell and Chiara Tamburlini will both compete in the fourth iteration of the prestigious event, March 29-April 1. Recent Rebel alumnus Julia Johnson is also set to play alongside her former collegiate teammates.
The tournament, taking place a week before The Masters, will feature 72 of the best women’s amateur golfers in the world and will be held at the Champions Retreat Golf Club. Following the second round, the field will be cut to 30 with the final round to be played at Augusta National.
For the first time in the history of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, TV coverage for all three rounds of the tournament will be provided by Golf Channel and NBC. Golf Channel is slated to host the opening two rounds of action on Wednesday and Thursday, with each day’s coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT, while NBC will televise Saturday’s final round of action starting at 11 a.m. CT.
Lignell has been on a historic run with the Rebels in 2022-23, earning six Top 5 finishes in her nine tournament appearances for the team on the year, tying the program record for most Top 5 finishes in a single season. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native has also captured two medalist finishes in her senior campaign, taking home titles from the Cougar Classic and The Ally.
Lignell currently leads the team in stroke average on the year, chalking up an average of 71.36 that currently ranks third in program history in a single season. Over her 25 rounds of action this year, Lignell has tallied a program-record 10 rounds in the 60s in a single season. She now sits at 17 rounds in the 60s in her career, ranking second all-time for the Rebels.
Tamburlini has also been on a hot streak for the Rebel squad as of late, sitting just two weeks removed from earning her first SEC Golfer of the Week designation following a third place finish at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. With a stroke average of 72.45 on the year, Tamburlini is aiming to earn her second consecutive All-American nod after receiving First-Team honors from the WGCA in 2021-22.
