Alfons Bondesson Named SEC Freshman of the Week

After leading the Missouri men’s golf team at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, Alfons Bondesson collected SEC Freshman of the Week accolades, announced by the conference Wednesday.

The rookie posted his second-straight top-five finish at South Carolina, finishing in a tie for fourth place (of 81 golfers) with a 12-under 204. Bondesson carded a four-under 68 in all three rounds of the tournament as he followed his second-place finish at the Colleton River Collegiate with his second top-five showing of the 2022-23 season.

Overall, Bondesson’s 204 set his career high by two strokes during his rookie campaign. During the 54 holes at Bulls Bay, the freshman carded 17 birdies to just five bogeys. Bondesson helped lead the Tigers to a fifth-place team finish of 15 schools competing at the tournament, ahead of both other SEC schools competing at the event.

Bondesson and the Tigers return to action on Monday, competing at the Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Arizona.
