HEATH AND WOAD ADVANCE TO FINAL ROUND OF AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN’S AMATEUR

EVANS, Ga. – Charlotte Heath and Lottie Woad are two of Florida State’s own that have advanced to the final round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Heath shot two consecutive rounds of even-par, while Woad had a phenomenal comeback in round two with a 3-under par 69. Only 31 players in the field made the 2-over par cut at Champions Retreat Golf Club, as Heath placed T14 and Woad placed T28.

Both Seminoles made their first-ever appearance in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, and both will be playing Augusta National for the first time in their careers. Heath and Woad share their excitement going into the final round at Augusta;

“The slopes and the greens, they are notorious worldwide. I’m going to be spending a long time there,” says Heath. “I just want to enjoy it, soak up the experience. I mean, playing here is like a reward for this season’s hard work, so I’m just going out to have fun.”

“I’ll be looking kind of the same as what I did here; where to miss, what clubs, lines, etc.,” says Woad, “but I mean also to just enjoy it because it’s Augusta National so it’ll be a very fun round.”

Heath stuck to her consistent play at Champions Retreat. She played par golf through round two with the exception of one birdie on the 9th hole and one bogey on the 16th hole.

She never wavered the promising thought of advancing to Augusta National. Her even-par finish was two strokes more than what she needed to move onto the final round.

Woad faced a thrilling, but nerve-wracking second round at Champions Retreat. She was lights out all day, but ultimately faced a bogey on the 16th hole to push her to 3-over par for the tournament, barely missing the 2-over par cut.

She refused to settle, hitting a great iron shot on the 17th hole, but was unable to sink the 10 footer that was left for grabs.

Woad’s resiliency truly showed on the 18th hole – a risky but reachable in two par 5. With a crushed drive down the middle of the fairway, Woad and her caddy decided to go for the green in two in an attempt to secure an eagle or birdie and make the cut.

Woad hit a perfect second shot, but outshot the green and landed on a slope. Her phenomenal chip shot was what sealed the deal for the freshman for Augusta. Woad’s chip went five feet past the hole, which was enough for her to make with ease for birdie.

Woad’s 18th hole birdie pushed her back to 2-over for the tournament and 3-under for the second round,…
