Men's Golf ends day one at The Goodwin


SAN FRANCISCO – The Washington State men’s golf team concluded the first round of The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, carding 8-over 288 to end the first day of the tournament in a tie for 16th on the team leaderboard.

Junior Jaden Cantafio shot 1-over 71 to lead the way for the Cougars in the opening round of The Goodwin. The Tustin, California native collected a team-best four birdies during his first 18 holes of play at TPC Harding Park. Cantafio opens Friday’s second round in a tie for 44th on the player leaderboard.

The Cougars ended the first round of The Goodwin at 8-over 288. The Cougars ended the opening round in a tie with Santa Clara, Colorado, and Utah for 16th in the 28-team tournament.

Senior Pono Yanagi and junior Preston Bebich each shot 2-over 72 to end their first day at TPC Harding Park in a tie for 59th in the 155-golfer field. Freshman Sam Renner ended the first round of The Goodwin one stroke behind Yanagi and Bebich, as the Bend, Oregon native carded 3-over 73 and will open Friday’s second round in a tie for 85th.

Host Stanford leads the field after one round of play at The Goodwin. The No. 8-ranked Cardinal carded 7-under 273 in the first round and take a two-stroke lead over No. 13 Oklahoma into Friday’s second round. Washington’s Bo Peng and Stanford’s Barclay Brown are tied for first on the player leaderboard after 18 holes of play at The Goodwin, as each golfer shot 4-under 66.

The second round of The Goodwin will get underway this Friday, March 31, at TPC Harding Park. The Cougars will tee off at 12:05 p.m. PT. Fans can follow all of the action at The Goodwin at GolfStat.com.
