AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 22 Virginia men’s golf team was tied for second place when the second round of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational was suspended due to darkness on Saturday. UVA stood at -16 under mid-way through its second round to be tied with No. 6 Illinois. No. 12 Florida led the 15-team field at 21-under when play stopped.
Play will resume at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, including the final round. Virginia’s players had between six and eight holes remaining in their second rounds.
UVA shot 13-under 275 to grab the opening round lead, one stroke ahead of the Gators and five shots better than the Illini.
Freshman Ben James led UVA during the first round by shooting 5-under 67 to finish the opening 18 holes in second place. Pietro Bovari was one shot behind James after shooting 4-under 68. Chris Fosdick and Jack Montague both shot 2-under 72 while George Duangmanee rounded out the Cavaliers’ scoring with a round of 74.
When the second round was suspended, James was tied for second at -7 while Bovari and Montague were tied for eighth at -3. Fosdick was in 13th place at -2 and Duangamee was 36th at +2.
