TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s golf team will return to action Monday and Tuesday at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, the final regular tournament season of the 2022-23 campaign. The two-day, 54-hole event is hosted by Mississippi State University and will take place at the par 72, 7,212-yard Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
The 18-team field will play 36 holes of continuous golf Monday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT. Alabama will be paired alongside Auburn, Liberty and Southern Miss and will begin the day on Nos. 5-7 with live scoring available throughout the event on Golfstat.com.
THE LINEUP
- The Crimson Tide’s lineup will feature Nick Dunlap, Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder, JP Cave and Jones Free, all of which finished among the top 25 in their last tournament, the Linger Longer Invitational
- Jonathan Griz will also be competing in the event as an individual
- Dunlap (No. 23), Claycomb (No. 59) and Ponder (No. 63) are each ranked inside the top-70 individuals in the nation, according to Golfweek.com’s latest individual rankings
- Dunlap, who earned his first medalist honors and second SEC Freshman of the Week honor when he helped lead the Tide to a team victory at the Linger Longer
- Dunlap leads the team in average strokes per round (70.54), rounds in 60s (11) and average vs. par (-0.96) entering this week’s tournament
- Claycomb, who recently announced he is returning to the Crimson Tide program for a fifth season in 2023-24, is second on the team in stroke average (71.33) and average vs. par (-0.04)
- Meanwhile, Ponder ranks third on the team in both categories (71.42, +0.04), just behind Claycomb to give Alabama three starters averaging under 72.00 strokes per round
- JP Cave is coming off the second-best finish of his career when he tied for sixth overall at the Linger Longer
- Cave’s 72.67 per round average and +1.27 average vs. par is fourth-best on the team
- Free enters the tournament playing his best golf of the season, with two top-20 finishes across the Tide’s last three events
