Burnett Leads, Ford One Back At Calusa Cup

Ryan Burnett and David Ford combined to shoot 7 under par to lead the University of North Carolina to a 4-under-par finish and second place after one round at the Calusa Cup Sunday at the Calusa Pines Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

The Tar Heels shot 4-under 284, three strokes behind Wake Forest.

Burnett, a fifth-year senior from Lafayette, Calif., was 1 under at the turn and remained that way through 13 holes before making birdies on four of the last five holes to finish with a 4-under 68 to hold the individual 18-hole lead. Dylan Menante shot 73 for the Tar Heels, while Peter Fountain had a 74 and Austin Greaser a 75.

The Calusa Cup is a nine-team field hosted by Iowa. Ohio State is third behind Wake Forest and UNC at even-par. Arizona State is fourth (+4), Texas Tech is fifth (+5) and top-ranked Vanderbilt is sixth (+6).
