North Carolina’s Ryan Burnett and Peter Fountain accounted for two of the only four rounds shot under par Monday to lead the Tar Heels to a three-shot advantage after 36 holes at the Calusa Cup at the Calusa Pines Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
Both Tar Heels shot 1-under-par 71s today to share the low round of the day with Vanderbilt’s Cole Sherwood and William Moll.
Carolina is even-par 576 after rounds of 284 and 292. Wake Forest, which led UNC by three after day one, is second at 3-over 579. The Commodores are third at 9 over, Arizona State is fourth at 11 over and Texas Tech is fifth at 17 over.
The Demon Deacons shot 281, the best round on Sunday, while Vanderbilt had the low round Monday at 291, a stroke better than Carolina.
Burnett, a fifth-year senior from Lafayette, Calif., is the individual leader for the second straight day. The 2022 NCAA Championship co-runner-up is 5-under 139 and has a four-shot lead over Wake Forest’s Andrew McLauchlan.
Moll and Wake Forest’s Michael Brennan are tied for third at even par. Fountain (74-71) is one of five players tied for fifth place at 1 over.
Carolina’s David Ford (2-over 146) is tied for 10th, Dylan Menante (3-over 147) is tied for 13th and Austin Greaser (7-over 151) is tied for 23rd.
The third and final round is Tuesday.
