Clemson Travels to Raleigh for Stitch Intercollegiate – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

Clemson, SC—Clemson will travel to the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, NC on Friday to compete in the Stitch Intercollegiate.  It will be the final regular season tournament prior to the ACC Tournament for Jordan Byrd’s Tigers.

Clemson will take a lineup that includes two freshmen and a sophomore to the 16-team event that will include ACC teams NC State, Duke and Boston College.  Oklahoma State, ranked 19th, is the highest ranked team in the field.

This will be Clemson’s fourth appearance in a tournament hosted by NC State at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Tigers have finished second or third in each of their past three trips.

In 2017, Clemson’s last appearance, the Tigers  finished second with an 18-under-par team score.  William Nottingham had a second round 62, a score that set the Clemson 18-hole record.  That 62 has since been tied by Jacob Bridgeman.  Nottingham’s performance in that second round included a school record 12 birdies, including a record seven consecutive birdies  over holes 5-11.

Clemson is led by sophomore Andrew Swanson, who has a 71.52 stroke average this year.  He has led Clemson during four tournaments and 14 different rounds.  He has six rounds in the 60s and 11 under-par rounds.  The native of Bluffton, SC finished third at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, NC in his last outing.  In October he won the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii.

Kian Rose will play the number-two slot in the Clemson order.  He is third on the team in stroke average this year with a 72.08 figure. He was Clemson’s top player at the Linger Longer with an eighth-place finish, his career best.   The native of South Africa has a team best 12 under-par rounds this year.

Jonathan Nielsen is second on the team in stroke average this year with a 71.92 figure.  The native of Denmark has a team best 16 rounds at par-or-better, and has a team best 71.50 stroke average in final rounds.   He is second on the team in birdies this year with 92.

Zack Gordon will be in the Clemson lineup for the 41st time in his five-year career.   He has a 73.12 stroke average for his career with 30 under-par rounds.  Gordon has two top 15 finishes this year.

Austin Scott, a red-shirt freshman from Daniel Island, SC, will round out the lineup.  He is playing just his second tournament at Clemson.   Transfer Alberto Dominguez and sophomore Sean Curran, will play the tournament as individuals.
