Men's Golf Earns 5th-Place Finish at Tiger Collegiate Led by Weston Jones


Columbia, MO – Rutgers men’s golf heads earned a fifth place finish at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday out of 14 teams hosted by Missouri in Columbia, MO. 

Individually, two Scarlet Knights placed in the top 25 of the two-day Invitational. 

Sophomore Weston Jones earned his best individual finish as a Scarlet Knight tied for 12th with a score of 68 (-8).  Jones opened the day with an impressive first round of 65 (-7) finishing in second place after round 1. The sophomore’s 17 birdies across three rounds earned him a career-best finish.  

RU senior Xavier Marcoux also shot under par finishing 16th with a score of 209 (-7) after three rounds.  

Luke Wells finished the event with a final score of 214 (-2) with a tie at 32nd place. The junior scored a 70 (-2), 73(+1), 71(-1) during the three-day event. Junior Rhett Sellers shot under par with a final score of 215 (73,73,69).  

Rutgers finished 8th with 54 birdies in the contest and finished 7th in team total eagles with 3.  Weston Jones finished the three rounds with 17 birdies and Xavier Marcoux finished with 11 respectively.   

The tournament winner, Illinois, finished with a total score of 796 (-22).  Individual winner Jackson Buchanan from Illinois, finished with a score of 194 (-6). 

The Scarlet Knights will return to competition for the Boilermaker Intercollegiate hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, IN on Saturday, April 16.
