Missouri Men’s Golf Places Second at Tiger Collegiate

Columbia, Mo. – The Missouri Men’s Golf team continued its strong play at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, finishing second of 14 teams with a record-breaking score.

Individually, five Tigers placed in the top 25 of the event, led by junior Charlie Crockett and his second-place finish on the individual leaderboard.

The Tigers carded a nine-under 279 to finish second only to the nation’s fifth-ranked team in Illinois. Overall, Mizzou carded a -40-team total of 824 – the second-best 54-hole score in school history and MU’s best-ever finish at the Tiger Collegiate. The 824 tally is the team’s best total in six seasons with only an 820 at the 2010 George Washington Invitational representing a better score.

In a field that included seven nationally-ranked individuals, Crockett led Mizzou by carding a seven-under 65 in the final round to finish with an 18-under 198 (64-69-65). His 198 total beat his career low in a 54-hole tournament play by eight strokes, while also marking the second-best tally by a Tiger in school history – current PGA pro Hayden Buckley carded a 197 in 2017.

During the three-day tournament, Crockett tallied two eagles and 18 birdies to go against just four bogeys during his record-setting pace.

Overall, five Tigers placed in the top 25 of the tournament and six in the top 35. Graduate student DJ Springer finished with a seven-under 209 to place 16th behind the strength of two eagles and nine birdies between the three rounds on the back nine alone. Junior Jack Lundin matched Springer with a 70 during the final round for a final tally of six-under 210 and placed 21st overall, while Antonio Safa finished 25th (-5) and Alfons Bondesson was 32nd (-2)

Competing as an individual, Dabbi Sigurbrandsson carded a seven-under 209 as well with a 70 on his final round beating his career-low 54-hole tournament score by three strokes.

The Tigers return to action this weekend, competing at the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
