The Missouri women’s golf team shifts its focus toward the postseason, competing at the 2023 SEC Championship, beginning on Wednesday.
TOURNAMENT INFO
The 2023 SEC Championship begins on Wednesday morning with the first of three days of stroke play. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
After three days and three rounds of stroke play, the top eight teams in the standings advance to match play, with the quarterfinals and semifinals set for Saturday, April 15 and the championship slated for Sunday, April 16. Sunday’s title bout is also set to air live on SEC Network.
The teams are scheduled to play on the Legacy Course at the Greystone Golf and Country Club, a par-72 course that measures 6,301 yards in length.
TIGERS AT THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP
Mizzou is set to compete in its 10th SEC Championship since joining the conference in 2013. The Tigers’ best finish came in 2018 when they placed eighth in the stroke-play round of the tournament and advanced to the match play championship – falling in the quarterfinals to top-seeded South Carolina.
Last season, the Tigers finished 14th in the stroke play with Sophia Yoemans leading the way for MU, placing 12th overall with a three-round score of +2 (74-73-71).
2022-23 AT A GLANCE
The Tigers feature a team with another of options this year. Five different student-athletes have led the team in scoring during a tournament this season with the team’s top stroke average golfers competing this week in Emily Staples (73.75), Kate Bibby (73.92), Melanie Walker (74.00), Sky Sload (74.00) and Jade Zamora (74.56).
Mizzou is currently on pace to feature four golfers with a stroke average of 74 or below for the first time in school history – only twice (2016-17 and 2018-19) has three hit the threshold.
The highlight of the campaign for the Tiger was winning the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne, while also placing third at the Paradise Invitational.
