Men’s Golf to Conclude Regular Season at El Macero Classic


LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s golf team will compete in its final tournament of the regular season at the El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif. this week from Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 16.
 
The 54-hole stroke play event is a par 72 with a course yardage of 7,127. There are 20 teams participating in the event. San Francisco is the highest-ranked squad entering Friday at No. 45 in the latest GolfStat poll. The Bruins are slotted at No. 74.
 
UCLA Lineup (1-5): Omar Morales, Mason Greene, Pablo Ereño, Ty Griggs and Kyle An.
 
The Bruins tee off for round one on the first tee beginning at 8:30 a.m. (PT).
 
The Field: California, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, University of Denver, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State, North Texas, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Diego, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Seattle University, UC Davis, UC San Diego, UCLA and Washington State.
 
Tournament History
Three Bruins who are competing this weekend also partook in the 2022 rendition of the El Macero Classic: Omar Morales, Pablo Ereño and Mason Greene, who competed as an individual.
 
Then-freshmen Morales and Ereño recorded the first top-10 finishes of their careers, both tying for seventh at 4-under. Ereño shot 69-72-71 in his three rounds while Morales shot 70-73-69.
 
UCLA placed fifth out of 14 teams at 1-under (288-293-282). Fresno State won the team title by one stroke (-7, 857).
 
The Bruins were runner-ups at the 2018 El Macero Classic (+25, 889) with four players placing inside the top 12, led by then-freshman Devon Bling, who tied for fifth (+5, 221). UCLA lost to first-place Nevada by 10 strokes.
 
The Bruins at a Glance
Neck-and-neck for the team lead in scoring average is Ereño with 72.7 strokes per round (21 rounds) and Morales with 72.9 strokes (18 rounds). Ereño owns the Bruins’ only top-10 finish this season which he earned with a t-9th spot at the Southwestern Invitational (-1, 71-69-75) on Feb. 1.
 
Greene has been able to find his game late into tournaments. Despite being a collective 25-over in the first rounds of his six competitions this season, he has settled…
