BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Ole Miss women’s golf team wrapped up their second round of action at the 2023 SEC Championship on Thursday, settling into 11th place at 28-over par on the week.
The Rebels continue to lead the field in total birdies, now with 29 over the tournament’s two rounds of play. A rain-filled day at Greystone Golf and Country Club, however, saw all 14 teams in attendance shoot rounds over par as they battled the conditions in Birmingham.
Ole Miss sits five strokes back from eighth place Florida, who currently holds the final spot advancing to match play if stroke play were to end today. Only the top eight teams on the team leaderboard will advance out of stroke play at the conclusion of Friday’s final round.
Senior Chiara Tamburlini continues to lead the charge for the Rebels in Birmingham, as her round of 75 (+3) on the day helped settle her into a tie for 10th overall. Tamburlini, who currently ranks second in the field in birdies with seven, will be aiming for her second career Top 10 finish at the SEC Championship in her career tomorrow.
Andrea Lignell also resides in the Top 20 for the Rebel squad, with the senior currently sitting 17th with a two-day score of 150 (+6). The Gothenburg, Sweden, native has yet to earn a Top 20 finish at SECs in her four-year career with the Rebels, with her best finish of 34th coming at last year’s conference tournament.
Natacha Host Husted and Elle Johnson marked the final two counting scores for the Rebels on the day, with Host Husted logging a 78 (+6) and Johnson carding a 79 (+7) to sit tied for 37th and 54th, respectively. Johnson, who is playing in her first SEC Championship with the Rebels, currently sits tied for second with her teammate Tamburlini in total birdies with seven on the week.
Senior Ellen Hume made her debut on the week for the Rebels on Thursday, replacing freshman Nicole Gal in the team’s lineup for round two. Hume finished her opening round of play with a scorecard of 82 (+10).
