Cal Moves Up Four Spots On Back Nine
EL MACERO – Nathan Wang led the California men’s golf team with an even-par 72 as it began its final tournament of the regular season Friday at the El Macero Classic. The Golden Bears ended the opening round tied for 16th after 18 holes at El Macero Country Club.
Wang finished with 14 pars in round one, tied for second-most out of the 100 golfers who saw action on the day. Trailing two strokes behind him in a tie for 53rd individually were teammates Aaron Du and Jeewon Park, both of whom carded an identical mark of 2-over 74.
Simon Kwon also contributed to the Bears’ team score by carding a 3-over 75.
Through one round of competition, Loyola Marymount (-6) leads the 20-team field, currently one stroke ahead of second-place San Diego (-5) and UCLA (-5).

Cal will be back at it for round two on Saturday with second-round tee times on hole 10 between 9:05-9:45 a.m. PT alongside Washington State, UC Davis and Cal Poly. Live scoring can be followed on Golfstat.com.
