COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rounds of 69 (-3) by Kan Bunnabodee and Ashley Kozlowski led Purdue Women’s Golf on the opening day of the Lady Buckeye Invitational. Kozlowski started the 36-hole day with her 3-under par round, while Bunnabodee carded her best round of the season during the afternoon 18 to help the Boilermakers sit in the middle of the pack.
Purdue ended the day in seventh place at 2-over, highlighted by a 3-under 285 in the opening round. The Boilermakers find themselves just one shot back of Michigan and Minnesota, with the two Big Ten foes tied for fifth. No. 25 Ohio State (-18), playing on its home course, holds a seven-shot lead over Michigan State (-11).
Bunnabodee birded 12 of the 36 holes Saturday, the most by anyone in the 87-player field. She countered five birdies with five bogeys for an even-par 72 to begin her day. After a bogey at the ninth to start her second round, Bunnabodee kicked off the back nine with back-to-back birdies to get into red figures. Once again, she made a bogey before responding with three straight birdies. Sticking to her bounce-back form, her third bogey of the round was followed by consecutive birdies to give her seven throughout the afternoon. The season-low 69 (-3) placed Bunnabodee at 3-under and tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard.
Kozlowski got the Boilermakers off to a strong start with her 3-under 69 in the first round. Starting on the back nine, she birdied holes 11, 13 and 17 to go along with six pars for a bogey-free 33. The junior made the turn and added another birdie at the par-4 second to get to 4-under and atop the leaderboard. Her lone miscue came at No. 7, but a pair of pars secured her third round in the 60s this season.
During the afternoon, Kozlowski made four birdies, four bogeys and 10 pars to stay level par for round two. She finished with a spark, making birdies on each of her last two holes to jump up the leaderboard alongside Bunnabodee in eighth at 3-under.
Jocelyn Bruch opened the day in red figures, carding an opening round 71 (-1). The Carmel, Indiana, native birdied three of her first five holes. Following a bogey, she birdied her second par-3 of the day to make the turn at 3-under.
